The Library of Congress is looking to AI to help users sift through Its collection. America’s oldest federal cultural institution has chosen three computer science and digital humanities experts to investigate how branches of artificial intelligence such as neural networks and computer vision can help humans sift through some of its millions of digitised items. The library, established in 1800, contains about 170 million physical items including ancient texts. As of 2018, the library’s digital collection consisted of 410 million unique files representing about 16 petabytes of data. Its digital collection includes photographs, maps, manuscripts, music and books. photo @librarycongress
