Alzheimer’s Pen

1 June, 2022

Scottish scientists have developed a pen that detects micro changes in people’s movements, which could lead to the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. The Neuromotor Pen works by measuring limb and hand motion while the patient writes. It then logs the data and compares it to motor patterns from those with impairments through the use of artificial intelligence.

The Neuromotor Pen is set to be a breakthrough in medical technology and will make screenings quicker and more accessible, helping doctors to diagnose patients earlier on. The pen is currently in its trial phase but medical technology company, Manus Neurodynamica, aims to get its invention to hospitals, health centres and walk-in clinics across the world.
