The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has announced that it will remove the Sackler name from its galleries. The decision comes in the wake of Sackler family members being sued for fueling the deadly opioids crisis in America, with the aggressive selling of prescription narcotic painkillers, OxyContin. According to the Met’s announcement, seven named exhibition spaces at the institution would no longer carry the Sackler name. Ai Weiwei and Nan Goldin were among a group of more than seventy artists who quietly pressured the museum to end its association with the family that made a fortune off opiods.
