Mother Trees
28 July, 2021
A 2021 book by ecologist Suzanne Simard uncovers her latest findings about miraculous ‘Mother Trees’. Defined as a highly-connected hub of old trees, Simard found that trees are inherently social beings that exchange nutrients like carbon and nitrogen through underground mycorrhizal networks. Mother Trees also act as centralised hubs, sharing resources and information with other trees, including communicating to them about environmental threats or insect pests.
