Face Value is an exhibition described as a ‘decentralised time bank.’ Encouraging visitors to reconsider what is really valuable today, and how to better live our values. Every visitor to the installation is gifted a coin worth one ‘person-hour.’ The exhibition explores ideas of value creation, cultural production, the gift economy, symbolic exchange and non-work. The installation takes shape as a series of marbled cork forms derived from analysis of Adolf Loos’ Viennese bourgeoisie, who are amongst the most sophisticated and radical classes in European history.
