This year’s Economist ‘Global Liveability Ranking,’ found that Auckland is the most liveable city in the world. Auckland’s successful approach in containing the COVID-19 pandemic, which allowed it’s society to remain open and the city to score strongly on metrics including education, culture and environment, propelled the cities ascent to the top. However, across the board, the pandemic caused liveability to decline – as cities experienced lockdowns and significant strains on healthcare systems. Many cities that were previously ranked as the most liveable, fared poorly this year. Vienna, previously the world’s most liveable city, fell to the twelfth position. Photo by Visit Auckland
