New research finds that funny memes may help people psychologically cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. A study published by the American Psychological Association indicates that internet memes make viewers feel calmer and more content, and help people cope with the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the 774 participant study, looking at memes about COVID-19 also increased people’s confidence in their ability to deal with the pandemic. These findings suggest that social media content about stressful public events can help people process the news and find comfort.
