Future-Proof Kitchen

30 September, 2022

With consumer food waste amounting to almost 2.1 billion tonnes of CO2e per year, Swedish appliance company Electrolux are hoping to do its part to reduce the impact of the household kitchen with their Electrolux GRO concept. The aim of the project is to reinvent the home kitchen through a range of modular solutions that empower consumers to eat healthier and more sustainably. The concept’s digital platform visualises a user’s eating habits by providing the climate impact of their meals, and gives suggestions and tips on how to cut down food-related carbon emissions over time.

Inspired by behavioural science from the EAT-Lancet report, the design also features AI sensors with elements like the “jewelry box” – a small storage solution that nudges users to eat less meat. Furthering the push for a meatless future, the kitchen incorporates a “nordic smoker” which prompts customers to smoke their ingredients at home and experiment with cooking vegetables in a new and exciting way.
