The city of Hong Kong is now testing ground-level traffic lights at pedestrian crossings to reduce accidents. This comes as a reaction to the almost 50% increase from 2021 to 2022 in accidents caused by pedestrians not obeying crosswalk signs. Saturating the crossing areas in a red or green LED glow, city dwellers can now easily spot the lights while looking at their smartphones. The city is also trialing the addition of audio cues at crosswalks to help visually-impaired individuals navigate.
